There is a first time for everything: for the first time in the history of the VINUM ‘World of Rosé’ competition, after several rounds of intensive tasting, two overall equal winners emerged. And why not – after all, this year’s competition also showcased the upward trend for this increasingly popular wine colour!
(Zurich) With rising production and sales figures, rosé wines have been the winners in recent years. Even the particularly competitive 10 to 20 euro price bracket has seen exciting quality development, and has never included so many delights for discerning wine drinkers. With more than 850 wines tasted, VINUM’s ‘World of Rosé’ competition is the biggest of its kind. All of the wines were extensively tasted and tasting notes were created for each. The results of the tastings are detailed at www.vinum.de/weinsuche, keyword ‘World of Rosé’.
This year’s two winning wines both come from Germany. Weingut Reichsrat von Buhl in Deidesheim was unrivalled with its Brut Rosé Prestige 2014 in the challenging sparkling wine category, and Weingut St. Antony in Nierstein similarly astonished the expert judging panel with its Wunderschön Pure 2021. And not least because both wines and their vintages impressively refute a common cliché – since rosé wines can of course mature as well!
The top-class expert judging panel of sommeliers, wine merchants, winemakers and the VINUM editorial board tasted the wines submitted over the course of three days. The wines were tasted, discussed and evaluated in detail in accordance with the international OIV guidelines, as is standard for a VINUM competition. The around 850 wines were tasted completely blind, across numerous rounds, and were scored using the internationally recognised 100-point system.
